ASFC began as ASIAC WA in the early 1970's, in response to the needs of children and families during the Vietnam War, later changing names to Australia for Children and in 1999 to Adoption Support for Families and Children. ASFC is the only parent/ adoptee based support group in WA. As adoptive families remain a minority in today's diverse family structures,it is imperative that applicants, families and adoptees feel supported in an environment where it is adoption that is our commonality and our diverse multicultural and ethnic backgrounds that compliments our families. Since the 70's Intercountry programmes have opened and closed and children joining families has fluctuated widely both in local and Intercountry. We welcome all adoptive families to be a part of our group, where ever you have adopted from as expats or locally.
Intercountry Adoption in Australia is overseen by the Federal Attorney Generals Department, attached to same is the Peak Intercountry Advisory Group. All contact details for Federal and State Departments and Peak Body Representatives are available through the Attorney General Department website.
